 1. What is the luggage weight limit?

Passengers on Quito - Coca flights are allowed to check in a maximum of 23 kg per person, along with one carry-on bag weighing 10 kg. The carry-on bag may include reading material, a camera, binoculars, and personal documents. Additional or excess luggage will incur charges by the airline based on weight.

  1. Are children allowed at the lodge?

We recommend that children be at least 6 years old and we suggest hiring a private guide for excursions.

  1. Can I come if I have a physical challenged?

Anyone can enjoy Piha Lodge regardless of their physical ability or condition. The lodge is wheelchair accessible and there are several activities such as canoeing along rivers or lagoons that can be enjoyed without the need to stand or walk.

  1. Are there private facilities?

Yes, all cabins are equipped with private bathrooms and showers that provide hot water.

  1. Can I come with my group?

Piha Lodge is ideal for groups wishing to explore to Amazon. Please contact us for more details.

  1. How many months ahead do I need to make a resevation?

The recommended timeframe for making a reservation varies but we suggest booking at least 3 months in advance or as soon as you make your plans start looking for availability.

  1. Is there a doctor at the lodge?

We have a doctor and a medical center located in the Community of Pompeya. In case of an emergency, the doctor can come to the lodge or the guest will be transported to the Community. For other rare situations, we can arrange transportation for the guest to Coca or Quito.

  1. Is it safe?

The safety of our guests is of utmost importance to us. Our lodge maintains a permanent staff available 24 hours a day who consistently patrol the entire area. Your safety and service are our top priorities.

  1. What is the weather like?

In the tropical rainforest, it is advisable to be prepared for various types of weather. It can be hot and sunny at times but refreshing rain showers can occur throughout the year. Our cabins are designed to repel heat and we provide fans for daytime use. However, it can get a bit chilly, especially after rain, particularly during the night.

  1. Is there a laundry service?

Piha Lodge offers laundry services for our guests. Please check the costs with our lodge manager.

  1. What is not included in the price?

The following items are not included in the price: international and domestic airfares, airport departure taxes or visa fees, excess baggage charges, additional nights due to flight cancellations, alcoholic beverages or bottled water, laundry service, rain poncho, Wi-Fi, and tips.

  1. Are there any vaccination requirements?

There are no mandatory vaccination requirements for entry into Ecuador. However, we recommend consulting with your doctor for personalized medical advice.

  1. Can I drink the water of Piha lodge?

All the drinking water provided in Piha comes from a local well. The wather is clorifica for the use of the lodge. We recommend not drinking it so we have bottled water in the cafeteria.

  1. Is there electricity at the lodge?

Yes, we have 24/7 electricity available at the lodge.

  1. What are the payment methods?

Payment can be made in cash (US dollars) or with all major credit cards if paid through PayPal (with an additional 6% fee). For on-site payments at the lodge, we only accept cash.

  1. What type of meals does the lodge offer?

All meals are included during your stay at Piha Lodge along with a soft drink or water. Alcoholic beverages and additional drinks are available for an extra charge. Our chefs offer a variety of excellent local, national, and international dishes to cater to your dietary requirements. For all food preparation, including salads, juices, and ice we use purified bottled water

  1. Do not smoke in the forest or near wildlife.

Please refrain from smoking in the forest or near wildlife. Additionally, avoid using perfumes or scented sprays, as the sweet scent can attract insects. Do not throw or leave any items on the trails even if they are biodegradable food items. Lastly, it is recommended to avoid wearing brightly colored shirts while in the forest, as they may scare animals.

  1. Can I use drones for filming?

The use of drones is prohibited in accordance with regulations for the conservation of the Amazon rainforest, aimed at protecting its wildlife. However, we may be able to capture certain shots in specific permitted areas.

 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Get vaccinated for yellow fever and COVID-19.
  2. Pack comfortable, lightweight, and durable clothing preferably in neutral colors. The jungle is hot and humid, so quick-drying clothes that prevent excessive sweating are recommended.
  3. Apply insect repellent and sunscreen at all times as there is a high presence of insects and strong sunlight in the jungle.
  4. Wear appropriate footwear such as boots or hiking shoes for jungle walks. It's also advisable to bring a pair of sandals or flip-flops for everyday use.
  5. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoid consuming untreated river water as it may contain bacteria and parasites.
  6. Don't forget to bring binoculars and a camera to fully enjoy the wildlife and flora of the jungle. It's also recommended to have a flashlight or headlamp for nighttime walks.
  7. Respect the rules and regulations of the lodge and Yasuní National Park. Avoid littering in the forest and refrain from touching or disturbing the wildlife.
  8. Listen to and follow the instructions of the tour guides and local indigenous leaders to ensure your safety and prevent accidents.
  9. If possible, try to learn some basic words and phrases in Spanish and the local indigenous language to communicate with the local residents.
